Prepping for Concrete

This past Saturday, August 23, the A&TC crew completed the final preparations for pouring concrete for the turntable ring rail. The form was given a final level check, backfill was added, rebar was bent and tied off in the form. Everyone made quick work of this primary task. (Paul, Alexander, Rob, James, John O, Ken, and Stephen)

Another major task was completed – the final grade improvements for San Patricio. Although many other people contributed over the past several weeks, John T led the effort and Sophia was first mate. It looks great!

Other tasks this week were:

  • The light fixtures were installed on the poles. Only two bulbs were on hand, but it looks great at night. (Alexander, Linda, James, Stephen)
  • Valve boxes have been installed for the water stands for the Austin station tracks and last of the trenches have been filled. (Rob)
  • 4 of the 5 station tracks in Austin have been reconnected. (Rob, Ken, John T, Sophia, John O, James)
  • The older model light poles have been moved from the RV parking area to a new location. (Tim, Paul)
  • The counters for the kitchen were moved into their final locations. (Linda, Ken, John O, Stephen, James, Tim)
  • Linda provided lunch consisting of sausage with peppers and onions on rolls, fruit salad, and brownies. Heat breaks had watermelon, popsicles, ice cream sandwiches, and pickle pops. Janet dropped by for lunch to say hi since she was in the area.

The crew for this workday included Ken, Linda, John T, Sophia, Rob, Paul, Tim, John O, James, Alexander, and Stephen.
