Transferring to the Table

Lots of little things and one big project were completed this past week ending on September 27.

During the week, Stephen was able to clear a few items off the task list:

position and level the steel span for the yard lead. He also installed the remaining solar light posts and the dinner bell.

  • Position and level the steel span for the yard lead
  • Install the remaining solar light posts
  • Install the dinner bell
  • Level the temporary site for the transfer table

Ken arrived a day early for the Saturday work day and knocked out lots of little tasks:

  • Installed the water valves and hoses for the Austin station tracks
  • Boxed in the frame for the main lead to the turntable at a joint between two spans
  • Prepared the temporary rails for the transfer table

Then, Stephen and Ken moved the transfer table to its temporary site and unloaded some locomotives onto the steaming bays.

On Saturday, a great crew arrived and completed the San Jacinto ballast work. Rob, James, Ken, John, David, and Stephen moved several more tons of ballast to ease the grade and level both tracks in San Jacinto.

Lori and Linda prepared a great lunch with chicken sandwiches, sweet potatoes, fruit salad, and finished with brownies.

After lunch, the crew moved to the Austin area. John attached the steaming bays to their shims with key blocks to secure them in place. Ken and Rob prepared a couple of yard tracks to realignment. James welded in spreaders in the turntable. Stephen and David built the final portion of the ramp for the yard lead. This ramp construction was joined by Ken, James, and John as well.
