April 18 Workday

There was a flurry of activity this past weekend focused on the two new structures.

At the Kitchen Shed, Mike, Mark, and John leveled (and re-leveled) the porch. They were able to set the cabinets in place got a smile from Linda.

David and Bob inspected and lubricated every switch on the railroad.

At the Tower

  • John and Sophia notched the posts for the dispather’s level.
  • Paul and James built the walls for the dispatcher’s level.
  • Ken installed the plumbing for the restrooms. This required sending Linda and Sophia to get more needed fittings.
  • Nick installed blocking in the walls to handle towel bars, grab bars, wall mounted sinks, the shower head, etc. He also added temporary blocks for the siding.
  • James cut out the holes for the toilets and cut the pipe that lines each toilet.
  • Bob reinforced joists that were cut for the toilets.
  • Mike, James, and Stephen installed the sheathing on the dispatcher’s level and then wrapped the entire building.
  • At the end, there was a flurry of siding panels being installed.

Linda served up an amazing lunch with a sopapilla cheesecake dessert. See the photo of James below!

That evening, David stayed late and, with Stephen’s tutelage, built the frame for his first car. He cut the metal for the spine and body bolsters, tried his hand at welding, drilled holes for kingpins and coupler pins, and ground down welds nice and smooth.

On Sunday, Johnny arrived as surprise. He fired up the Ditch Witch and cut in trenches for the power for the future engine house, the Tower, and Kitchen Shed. Ken and Linda were on hand to complete the plumbing for the restrooms.
