Phase 2 Begins & NMRA Tour

At the recent workday, the Crew focused on two goals: begin surveying for phase 2 and an afternoon NMRA Tour.

Vance and Paul brought their coal burning steamers for the NMRA tour and Rick brought some extra riding cars. Paul also had his diesel on display as did Ken and his 4-6-2, 0-4-0, and Rusty. The two steamers spent the morning getting ready.

Rob made several trips around the railroad addressing a number of track maintenance items. Bob cleaned and lubricated all of the switches. Newcomers Graves and Rhonda walked the track trimming any vegetation encroaching on the right of way.

Stephen and newcomer Jim began the survey of phase 2. As others became available, they joined the survey crew – squeezing through the thicket, trimming brush, hauling it out of the woods, setting flags, moving flags, and moving them again.

Lori, Linda, and Judy prepared lunch which gave everyone a bit of relaxation before the afternoon tour. Janet even sent dessert with Paul. With 13 at lunch, it is always great to see a full lunch table.

The Lone Star Region of the NMRA was holding their 2026 convention in Austin and asked if the A&TC would host a tour. The date coincided perfectly with this workday. So, we agreed.

The tour guests began arriving just before 2. The steamers were ready and running. The Kitchen Crew sent out cookies and lemonade for everyone. The guests inspected the locomotives, asked questions, rode trains, and took a lot of photos. Right at 4pm unexpected rain came down and caused everyone to quickly shut down and pack up for the day.

All in all, a successful day on the A&TC. Many thanks to all of the Crew for making an impact.
