Final Meet Prep

Starting on Saturday, October 4, the final preparations for the Fall Meet began.

Tim, John O, John T, Sophia, Doug, Kathy, David, Paul, Janet, Johnny, Ken, Linda, Stephen and Lori were on hand Saturday. Ballasting of the Austin yard and the relaying the curve at Coleto Junction were the primary work items. Janet provided lasagna for lunch while Linda and Lori prepared a salad and the table. The ladies also finalized the grocery list for the rest of the week.

Sunday was a lighter day of work with Ken, Stephen, Johnny, David, Lori and Linda.

On Monday more ballasting in the yard and attention began toward levelling the track fixing any kinks. Later in the day, James and Lionel from Oklahoma arrived with a much-anticipated model of the San Jacinto monument.

Tuesday morning, everyone helped clear the site and position the monument at the San Jacinto passing siding. At 9′ tall, it is 1/64th scale (S scale) and is quite a sight! Levelling the track and checking for kinks was the rest of the day’s work. Phillip arrived in the afternoon for additional fresh muscle.

Wednesday, the crew started early and walked nearly every foot of the railroad making final adjustments. Dave, Cindy, and Rick arrived to assist as well. Trains went around the railroad trimming brush, picking up bits of scrap laying around. A group also chipped up all of the brush which was carted to the social area as a soft floor.

The railroad is ready for the meet which starts Thursday!
